I was fortunate to be involved in designing and producing two posters for the visiting guest lecture series ‘Culture Thursdays’. For each talk, a pair of students is selected to design and produce a poster that promotes the event. Each design should be crafted to reflect the unique style and philosophy of the visiting speakers while maintaining a strong visual draw. Aside from using the designated Culture Thursday typeface and hierarchy, the designers can interpret the speaker’s practice and approach their design in their own engaging way.

Studio Kiln is an amazing Cornish based design studio known globally for its bold, process-driven approach, blending playful motion with structured composition. Our approach drew inspiration from their own visual identity, incorporating their colour palette and the distinctive container shapes used across their branding. We wanted some playful motion to echo the studio’s dynamic and experimental style. The result was a fun, energetic composition that not only captured their ethos but also served as an engaging promotional piece for their talk.

 Dan Perri

Renowned American title sequence designer Dan Perri, is celebrated for his work on iconic films such as Star Wars, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and The Exorcist.  We crafted a poster that reflected his expertise in title sequence design. Taking inspiration from his body of work, we pulled letterforms and colours from different projects, integrating them with the Culture Thursday typeface. Set against a black background - symbolic of the dark screens often present in his sequences - the design created a cinematic feel. For the promotional element, we aimed to capture the scale and impact of his work, presenting it in a dramatic, filmic style piece of motion that mirrored the immersive experience of title design.
